Frida’s Quilt
Acrylic and collage on paper, 18" x 24"

I am not the first or last artist to be inspired and influenced by the legendary
Mexican artist Frida Kalo. In this mixed media collage I pay homage to her legacy.
The “quilt” contains Frida’s self-portraits, of which she painted dozens. It is chockfull of color, much like Frida’s work and life. I added pieces of quilt blocks to represent the many years she spent in bed due to her accident and resulting poor health. The little metal embellishments refer to the metal body braces and assorted gear Frida endured. It could very well be a gloomy and depressing piece of artwork but like Frida and her art, it is instead anything but.
