Weaving The Past With The Future
Mixed media and collage on paper, 28" x 36"

The woman in this painting has her back to us as she gazes far away into the unseeable and unknowable future.  On her back she carries a symbol of an ancient past, both a burden and a shield. She is surrounded by and connected to hundreds of bits of traditionally woven fabric. The very tradition of weaving, still alive today, is a living thread connecting  many generations.  I added the embroidery thread to the woman's hair to symbolically "tie" the past to the future.
